Multifamily Podcast Network

We have all heard of the importance of education when starting in commercial real estate investing. Education is one of the consistent variables to a successful start in the commercial real estate investing space. However, when does education become a barrier? You may have heard of or even fallen victim to “analysis paralysis.” For so many getting started on their investing journey, the lack of understanding or the feeling of having to know every aspect of investing before taking the next actionable step holds them back from ever getting started.

Our special guest on today’s episode is Adam La Barr, Co-Owner of Active Duty Passive Income. ADPI’s focus is to help current and former military members and their families gain passive income through real estate investing. Adam, like many others, fell into the trap of analysis paralysis for many years before taking action. It wasn’t until he stepped out of his comfort zone that he was able to break through the analysis paralysis and begin building his portfolio while helping teach others how to do the same.

Adam is a multifamily investor, educator, coach, and family man who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the American Military University. After high school, Adam joined the Air Force, where he met his wife – she was instrumental in his journey to begin investing in real estate. He started with analyzing single-family and small multifamily properties, but soon found his preference in large apartment buildings. To date, Adam has invested in over 300 doors.

The Final Four:

1.     What are you doing for your continued education to further your investing?

Adam: “Constantly feeding myself with books and podcasts. I’m trying to stretch outside of just – I don’t want to listen to more real estate books. It’s not that I’m not going to learn something from them; it’s just that when you’re in a pattern of doing things, you’ve kind of got that part down, and now I want to stretch myself outside of that. I recently joined a new mastermind… It’s all about being a healthy, wealthy family man, and that’s what I want to do.”

2.     Who would you say has been the biggest inspiration for you and your success so far?

Adam: “My wife, by far.”

3.     What advice would you give to the listeners to help them grow their businesses?

Adam: “It goes back to surrounding yourself with the right people. If you keep surrounding yourself with people at the bar, that’s what you’re going to continue to do. Go to the REIA meetings. Get out of your comfort zone. I am a firm believer in getting into a group of like-minded folks.”

4.     How can the listeners learn more about and connect with you?
